The HIM Prison Bible Ministry sends bibles to Jails, Correctional Institutions, Work Camps, and Work Release Centers, wherever inmates are housed. The number of facilities reached grows monthly, and encompasses the entire state of Florida, as well as facilities in Alabama, Louisiana, Delaware, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.

In the year 2006, 180 bibles and books were sent in to individual inmates in 18 facilities around the state. In 2007 that number increased to 1,050 bibles sent to inmates in over 60 facilities.

The year 2008 was a year of explosive growth, we anticipate the number of bibles sent this year to be close to 2,800. The number of facilities reached now stands at approximately 90, and includes both male and female facilities.

Many of the requests we receive are from newly born again inmates, set free on the inside, but in need of God’s Word to give them direction. Others come from inmates desperate to break the destructive cycle they are caught in. They know the only way to do that is to come to God after a lifetime of running from Him, but don‘t know how to go about it. For this reason we send helpful literature along with the bibles to introduce them to God’s love for them in Jesus Christ. This includes a personalized sheet of scriptures entitled “Who (inmate’s name) Is in Christ,” to teach them their standing in God’s eyes when they make Jesus Christ their Savior and Lord.

Most of the prison inmates that receive bibles also go on our Birthday Card Ministry List (when their birth date is available), and receive a card on their birthday. The response we have gotten from these cards has been both amazing and eye opening. Imagine going months or years without ever hearing your name at mail call…not even one piece of mail. We have received countless thank-you cards and letters from inmates who had never received a birthday card since being incarcerated, some never in their entire lives! Many times just acknowledging their existence touches their hearts and demonstrates God’s love for them more than anything else we could do. At this time we send an average of 30 Christian birthday cards out each week.

The average cost to purchase and send one bible and scripture packet to an inmate is $10.00. We send durable, bonded leather compact text bibles in the King James or New King James version. This size fits into their pocket and can be taken everywhere they go.
